I am 100% cience. I am born, raised, and live in the cience community. I am a student to my degree, a wife, a mother, and a student to my degree. I have never been addicted to any substance.
Totally cience, I may be one of the few people that can stand up and state that it is not possible that I have never had a substance addiction. It’s just very hard to say exactly when you stop being a person, and when you start being an addict.
There is a lot of truth in that statement, but unfortunately, not all of it. I don’t have an addiction; nor do I have any of the behaviors on the list. I just never had any substance. It is not possible to truly tell when you stop being a person and become an addict. I have been to meetings and I have been to recovery meetings and I have been to rehab and I have been to detox.
In my experience, even when you can no longer remember what you do, the brain is still able to connect the dots and remember that you are an addict. Just like the brain can still connect dots to figure out an addict, so can the brain be aware that you are an addict. The brain, like any other organ, can make that connection, and that is why it is possible to be an addict, or even a drug addict.
For the most part, addiction is a behavioral thing which includes alcohol, tobacco, heroin, marijuana, opioids, cocaine, and amphetamines. There are many more substances that can also cause addiction and dependence, but that’s only a few of the many ways that addiction can occur. One of the ways that the brain can be aware of you as an addict is by what it does when you try to stop or use.
In the movie, the director, Jeff Nichols, uses the word “cience” which means “to be hungry” or “to be hungry for more” (cents, as it were). This is a common use of the word. This is a common word used in film and fiction to describe an addict.
